A recent medical study revealed how effective the Corona virus is in infecting us when it is transmitted in the air.
The study, conducted by the Aerosol Research Center at the University of “Bristol”, British, confirmed that the Corona virus loses nearly 90% of its ability to infect us, within 20 minutes of its transmission by air.
Study author Professor Jonathan Reed stressed that wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing are the most important measures to prevent Covid-19.
The newspaper “The Guardian” quoted Reid as saying: “Previous studies confirmed the continuation of the effectiveness of the contagious coronavirus for three hours, but our experience proved the opposite.”
Researchers from the University of Bristol developed a device that allowed them to generate any number of tiny virus-containing particles and gently lift them between two electric loops for anywhere between five seconds to 20 minutes, all while controlling temperature, humidity and UV rays.
About the experiment, Reed said: “This is the first time that anyone has been able to simulate what happens to an aerosol during the exhalation process.”
The study, which has not yet been reviewed, suggested that because viral particles leave the relatively moist, carbon dioxide-rich lung, they quickly lose water and dry up, while moving to lower carbon dioxide levels is associated with a rapid increase in pH.
These two factors disrupt the virus’s ability to infect human cells, but the speed with which the particles dry varies with the relative humidity of the surrounding air.
Among the results of the study also, that the air temperature did not affect the viral infection, which contradicts the prevailing belief that the transmission of the virus is lower at high temperatures.
