COMPOSITION
URONTA Capsules: Each capsule contains 100 mg Nitrofurantoin Macrocrystal.
URONTA Oral Suspension: Each 5 ml of suspension contains 25 mg Nitrofurantoin.
CLINICAL PHARMACOLOGY:
Nitrofurantoin is a substance with an antibacterial action used for the treatment of urinary tract infections. High concentrations of Nitrofurantoin are eliminated particularly in urine. Its effect is probably based on interference with various enzyme systems in bacteria. The type of effect is primarly bacteriostatic (bacteriocidal in higher concentrations). The spectrum of activity includes most microorganisms which cause urinary tract infections.
INDICATIONS:
Uronta is indicated for the treatment of acute and chronic infections of the urinary tract caused by sensitive organisms: Escherichia coli, enterococci, Staphylococcus aureus, and certain susceptible strains of Klebsiella and Enterobacter species.
DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION:
Uronta should be given with food to improve drug absorption.
Adults: (50 – 100 mg) four times a day for one week.
The lower dosage level is recommended for uncomplicated urinary tract infections.
For long term suppressive therapy: (50 – 100 mg) at bedtime.
Children and infants over one month of age: (5 – 7 mg/Kg) of body weight per day, given in four divided doses, and for one week.
For long term suppressive therapy: (1 mg/ 1 Kg) as a single dose or divided in two doses.
