Free Radicals & Antioxidants
Free Radicals & Antioxidants:
Free radicals are group of substances created in normal biochemical processes, and the body can keep them in check. However, a problem is created when too many free radicals are present in the body for long time. Our modern lifestyle can lead to an excess of these free radicals being formed. Some of the conditions that promote formation of free radicals: food additives, pollution, stress, sunlight, smoking, X-rays.
These excess free radicals can cause severe damage to cells, which can lead to degenerative disease as well as premature aging. They can also attack the DNA, which can lead to genetic mutation.
Antioxidants include a variety of vitamins, minerals and enzymes that help to protect the body from the formation of free radicals. The body can manufacture its own antioxidants, yet an increase in free radicals would make it necessary to provide the body with external antioxidants.
Beta-carotene, vitamin C and vitamin E are considered some of these powerful antioxidants which can help in a wide variety of conditions, like: acne, aging skin, allergies, cardiovascular diseases, arthritis, bowel inflammations, cancer, cold and flu, fatigue, male infertility, stress and wound healing.
